Pre-owned sailing gear deserves more context than “looks fine mate.”

Green — lower risk

Items where failure is generally less likely to create an immediate serious safety hazard. Condition still matters and buyers should check suitability.

Yellow — inspection recommended

Equipment where wear, structural integrity, installation or load history can materially affect safe use. Buyers should inspect carefully and consider professional advice.

Red — safety-critical

Equipment where failure may create serious risk. Examples can include life-saving equipment, standing rigging and other critical load-bearing components. Professional inspection or replacement may be the sensible choice.

The rating is not certification

Docklist's meter is a communication tool, not an engineering approval, warranty or guarantee. Sellers must disclose known issues; buyers must judge whether an item is appropriate for their boat and intended use.

Report unsafe listings

Every live listing includes a report action. Listings that appear misleading, unsafe or fraudulent should be flagged for review.
